The Backbone Every Security System Depends On

Cameras, intercoms, access control panels, alarms, and automation hubs all need reliable structured cabling to function properly. A system installed on poor cabling infrastructure will fail unpredictably: often at the worst moment.

DSS has installed communications infrastructure alongside security systems for over 50 years. We know exactly what every system needs and we build it clean, labelled, and futureproofed for expansion.

Why use a security company for cabling?

Because we install the security systems at the same time. One team, one site visit, all cable routes planned together: no holes drilled twice, no conflicting infrastructure, no passing-the-buck between trades.

What We Install

Structured cabling and communications infrastructure for residential, commercial, and industrial properties.

Data Cabling (Cat5e / Cat6 / Cat6A)Network infrastructure for offices, homes, and commercial sites, supporting security cameras, access control, and general IT
Telephone System WiringInternal telephone cabling and line distribution for offices and businesses, for new fitouts and upgrades
Audio-Visual CablingAV infrastructure for boardrooms, reception areas, and commercial spaces: HDMI, DisplayPort, and speaker cable
CCTV Cable RunsCoax and Cat6 cable runs for camera systems with concealed routing with no exposed cable wherever possible
Alarm System CablingAlarm panel and sensor cabling using correctly rated cable for every device type, routed to minimise interference
Communications Cabinet FitoutPatch panel installation, cable management, and labelled termination in commercial comms rooms and server rooms
NBN & ISP ConnectionsInternal cabling to support NBN, FTTP, and commercial internet connections, with wall plates and patch points
Fibre Optic CablingSingle-mode and multi-mode fibre for high-speed inter-building links and long-distance camera runs

Cable Quick-Reference Guide

Not all cable is the same and using the wrong type causes interference, data loss, and premature failure. Here's what we use and why.

Cat5e
Data / IP Cameras
Max Speed
Up to 1 Gbps
Max Run
100m

Standard network cabling for IP cameras, computers, and intercoms. Adequate for most residential and small commercial sites.

Cat6
Data / PoE Cameras
Max Speed
Up to 10 Gbps
Max Run
55m

Reduced crosstalk, better for PoE+ and PoE++ devices. Our standard for commercial installations, which future-proofs for higher-spec cameras.

Cat6A
High-Speed Data
Max Speed
Up to 10 Gbps
Max Run
100m

Full 100m run at 10 Gbps. Required for high-density commercial environments with many PoE devices on the same run.

RG6 Coax
Legacy CCTV / Antenna
Max Speed
Analogue
Max Run
300m+

Used for older analogue camera systems and TV antenna distribution. Still found in many existing installations we service and upgrade.

Fibre Optic SM
Inter-Building Runs
Max Speed
100 Gbps+
Max Run
10km+

Single-mode fibre for long-distance camera runs and inter-building connections. Immune to electrical interference, which matters on large sites.

Alarm Cable (4-core)
Alarm Sensors
Max Speed
Low-voltage
Max Run
200m

Shielded 4-core cable rated for alarm sensor wiring. Correct cable prevents interference from mains power and ensures reliable signal transmission.

Common Questions

Do you do residential cabling as well as commercial?

Yes. We run data, phone, AV, and alarm cabling in homes, covering new builds, renovations and upgrades to existing properties.

Can you run cable without damaging walls?

We minimise wall disruption by planning routes through ceiling cavities, existing conduit, and wall cavities. Where surface mounting is unavoidable, we use colour-matched cable trunking.

Do you supply the cabling materials?

Yes. All cable, conduit, wall plates, patch panels, and termination hardware are supplied by DSS as part of the job. We use quality materials, not the cheapest available.

Can you work alongside other trades on a building fitout?

Yes. We regularly work alongside electricians, builders, and IT contractors on fitouts. We coordinate cable routes and timing to suit the construction schedule.

Get your infrastructure right from the start

Cabling done properly saves problems later. Talk to us before your fitout, upgrade, or new build begins.
